How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal works when there is color in the hair. The laser is attracted to the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair follicle. Dark hair responds best and white or blonde hair does not respond at all. The laser directly targets the melanin, thus eliminating the hair follicle. We use Cutera Prowave 770 IPL (can be used on skin types 1-4) and Cutera Nd-Yag 1064 (can be used on all skin types).

What Does it Feel Like?

Most people describe the sensation like a “rubber band snap” that lasts a fraction of a second. There is a built-in cooling tip that protects the surface of the skin and helps minimize discomfort. Most patients have no discomfort after treatment and resume normal activities.

How Long Do the Treatments Take?

Treatments take anywhere from 5 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area(s) being treated.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

Typically 8 treatments, spaced 4-8 weeks apart, are required for optimal results. Most patients will lose, on average, 10-15% of actively growing hair follicles with each treatment.

How Much Does It Cost?

The price of the treatment depends on the areas being treated. We offer very competitive pricing, the most experienced laser technicians, and direct doctor supervision. All of our treatments are performed by certified laser specialists, who are licensed aestheticians or registered nurses.

What Results Can I Expect?

Treatment results vary among patients. For some, there will be a significant decrease in frequency with which you shave. For others, there will be minimal, very fine or completely absent growth. Most patients will experience some re-growth with time. However, the hair that grows back tends to be much finer and less dense. Touch-up treatments will help keep this re-growth minimal.

When Will I Start To See Results?

Since there is reduction in the number of hair follicles with each treatment, you will start to notice results in as little as 1 treatment. For best results, please adhere to your treatment schedule as suggested by your laser specialist.

Can I Be Tan During My Treatments?

Sun tanned skin can increase your risk for adverse reactions and make the treatments less effective. We advise using sunblock at all times before and during your treatments. Sunless tanners can be used up to 1 week before your treatment.
